Puretech Baby Monitor Review

Crib Camera

As of 7/15/20 we have not seen the Puretech Baby Monitor available for purchase. We are currently using the Google Nest Cam for baby #2 and you can read all about why the Nest Cam makes a great baby monitor.

A baby monitor is one of those things that makes every new parent list. And with holiday gift giving upon us, we thought we’d give you some insight into the Puretech WiFi Baby Monitor in case you are thinking about purchasing or gifting one. Mostly because when we were searching for baby monitors, it was overwhelming. There are so many different brands with all sorts of different features and technology. We set out on a quest for a baby monitor that would work with our spotty wifi and came across Puretech. Just by glancing at all the specs, it seemed to fit the bill so we were very excited when they offered to send us one to try out. It’s always helpful to get the opinion of other parents in this area, so here’s what we think about using Puretech for your baby video monitoring needs:

Puretech WiFi Baby Monitor: The Basics

The Puretech Baby WiFi Baby Monitor is operated using an app, which can be accessed anywhere from a smartphone or tablet. Video cameras are powered in many different ways and everyone has their own preference. This one is for users who are comfortable using technology and want the flexibility of a wifi enabled device. Included in your kit you’ll receive a wifi camera, bracket for mounting, AC adapter, USB cable, and user manual. The easy AC adapter means no replacing batteries every night. And the convenient 2-way microphone/speaker allows you to talk and comfort your little one as needed. This device is also motion activated meaning a mobile alert will be created anytime motion is detected. Plus, it’s not just for daytime. The video uses night vision so you can get a clear image of your baby sleeping in dark settings.

Easy to install

If you’re looking for something you can have up in running in a matter of minutes, this is your jam. It’s super quick and easy to install. All you have to do is download the app, place the camera wherever you want it positioned, connect to wifi, and sit back and relax. It’s really simple, which makes it not only a great home solution, but perfect to take along when traveling.

Convenience

One of my favorite things about this device is the ability to see my little girl no matter where I am. It’s extremely useful to check on your baby no matter where you are in the house. You don’t have to lug around a big video monitor. You just open up the app (after closing out of Candy Crush) and you’re on your way. Plus it doubles as a home surveillance monitor when you’re away from your house.

Security

You’ve all undoubtedly seen the news of hackers getting into baby monitors and spying on families, babies, so-on-and-so-forth. Unlike many wifi enabled cameras, someone needs to get into BOTH your home network AND your Puretech account to take control. Needless to say, we feel very secure in this scenario. Additionally, you can share access to parents-in-law, babysitters, or friends who want to watch baby and that access can be revoked at any time.

Portability

This tiny camera can travel with us wherever we go. More often than not, we’re in the same hotel room and a monitor is quite unnecessary. But when we visit the in-laws (and she has her own room) we set up the camera, put O to bed, and carry on with our evening. You know, assuming people actually put her down long enough to go to bed. All you need to do is get on the hotel or your parents’ wifi network and set it up just like you would at home.

Playback

One feature that shouldn’t be overlooked: you can put an SD card in the camera to save the video for playback. Unlike other cameras out there, this is not an extra add-on or subscription service. It’s part of the whole package! You can see all of the silly things your little one does in the middle of the night, like trying to chew on their feet or flopping all around.

Our Takeaway

In a world full of monitors and requirements, the Puretech monitor checks all of our boxes. It’s simple, durable, secure, and easy to use. Sure, we love our Nest Cam, but it’s not a dedicated monitor and doesn’t travel nearly as well.  That’s where the Puretech takes the cake. If you are looking for an affordable, feature packed option, this is your pick.
